He made France a European (and to some degree, Global) power. He strengthened the army and navy and increased trade with other nations. He was also involved in allowing colonization but was not too interested in it.
However, we has also a massive egotist (which you can evaluate as a good thing or bad). He created a court that would ensure that he was the state and that the nobility would have only a small amount of power in the nation. His palace at Versailles became a testament to his immense power and almost showed his god like control over nature with ski hills in the summer (sugar…), wine from the fountains (and fountains turning on and off when he walked by) trees from more tropical climates growing in his private gardens, etc
He was an incredible self promoter and showed himself off as a man of imense power.
