Repairing and Scrubbing your Crystal Cabinet Knobs and Other Door Hardware
If you have steel or crystal cabinet knobs, would visitors and family members actually care? Well, no matter how insignificant these hardware might be to others, you could be surprised how significant these hardware actually are in completing the appearance of your place. Wobbly knobs can be a result of a sloppy installation. Your carpenter may have miscalculated the dimension of your knob to the drill, or there could have been a lax screw within the hardware. A knob that’s stubborn to open meanwhile may lack of some oiling or polishing. Particularly with crystal cabinet knobs, they can turn tight after a long period of time not being used.
To fix your shaky knobs, question yourself first whether what would be more practical: to re-install them once more or replace them completely? Chances are, if you attempt to re-install them again, the drill or the vent for the screws might have by now been overly loose. So either you need to drill a new vent again or you can have a new door hardware. If you fancy to replace them, you might use door handles for a change. It could give a new look for your door. I would advise you though to still choose door knobs because they are apparently easier to set up compared to door handles or cabinet pulls.
For the tight knobs identify first what material are they made of. This is vital because varied material such as metal, wood and crystal require a different style of cleaning method. Metal hardware for example like bronze, steel or chrome has to be cleaned by baking soda and vinegar solution. Wooden hardware may call for oil polishing. Plastic hardware needs to be awashed and scrubbed in the water while crystal and glass hardware could only require a simple wiping.
In cleaning your hardware, always bring to mind to remove the knobs first from the sideboard or from the doorway. After cleaning, re-install them again. If the knobs are still stiff, then perhaps you could need brand new crystal cabinet knobs. But if the knob worked as if it is as good as new, then don’t forget to polish them once in a while to keep having troubles again.
